Great baby on the Great Wall

The Great Wall was everything you could hope for - high, steep, crowded, great views, sense of accomplishment at the top, sense of wonder at how anything like this got built centuries ago.

Zoë was fantastic all day. She very much likes being in the carrier, all snuggled in. She watched everything on the way up the wall, then napped most of the treacherous descent (it was pretty icy).

We also got to experience how unreal it would be to visit China on a bus tour. Our guides here are used to doing the coca cola bus tour thing, so even though we're on our own, we got subjected to the usual routine. So we started with a tour of a jade factory ("on the way"), which is code for soak the tourists. Then after the Wall we went to a Chinese restaurant for lunch. Sounded nice until we pulled into a parking lot with 30 tour buses already parked. The food tasted just like Ace Chinese, which is fine if you're in our little town in Ontario, but pretty strange for Beijing. Sweet and sour pork, kung pao chicken, baby bok choy, all with no discernible spiciness.

Photos to follow, and possibly a video of Zoë eating ice cream. So stay tuned.
