Triathlon Roundup

I thought about quitting the triathlon about 200m into the swim but decided that would be too embarrassing after having mentioned it on Facebook and this blog (ah, the power of social media). So I bobbed along through the swim and then thoroughly enjoyed the bike and run, despite a fair amount of rain. I ended up 337th out of 602 participants, which isn't so horrible considering that I was 543rd after the swim. Kate was amazing as always, finishing 4th out of 40 women in her age group and in the top 20 overall women out of over 200. She also beat me by about 14 minutes!! I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who competed in the triathlon and then was dumb enough to show up to his oldtimers' soccer game that night. Fortunately the game was canceled, saving my tired old legs from further punishment. For next year, I may even try learning how to swim and training a bit!

First Triathlon Tomorrow!!

Lots of catch-up blogging required from our Maine trip, visit from Lindsey & Serge, etc.

But right now, all focus is on tomorrow's triathlon - my first!!
Realizing that I should really have learned to swim, should really have done more biking and running too.
So, send positive thoughts for a calm day on the water - the last thing I need is waves!

Walking in Maine

Zoë was walking a bit before, but tonight the light bulb really turned on and she started walking everywhere! Look out world, here come's a walking Zoë.

We're having a fantastic time in Maine with my parents, Beth and her family, plus my mom's best childhood friend and all of her kids and grandkids. The cottage we're in (with Beth's family) is just off the beach on the right side of the above photo  - beautiful sand which goes on for miles. The weather has been spectacular so everyone's in the water and digging sandcastles all day. Plus Kate and I are getting in some runs/bikes/swims and I played a round of golf today too. The drive down was pretty brutal as Zoë decided she didn't like road trips around the beginning of the 2nd day. But memories of crying babies are designed to recede more quickly than memories of laughing, walking, playing in the surf babies. The twins are having a great time with their big twin cousins - who continue to be the best kids we've ever met. Of course, my mom has been taking all the photos so I'll have to post those later.
