Day 3 in Shanghai

Another busy day in the big city. Less than 24 hours until we meet Zoë for the first time. Which makes this whole Shanghai thing seem like quite the irrelevant side story. But it is keeping our minds occupied, making it harder to panic! I know I won't get any sympathy from the other parents of young children who are envious of our current vacation in a fantastic locale, but we really are missing Molly & Jacob like crazy.

We had breakfast up on the 49th floor again - another beautiful, warm day. Then we headed out on foot to Sun Yatsen's former residence, which has been converted into a museum documenting this father of the republic. From there we headed to the Old China Hand Reading Room, a great little coffeeshop/bookstore. After a little down-time we explored Taiking Lu which is a warren of alleys filled with artshops, restaurants, and shops. Once laden down with packages we returned to the hotel for an afternoon rest. This evening we took a cab out to Nanjing Donglu, which is a pedestrian only (although in Shanghai this doesn't seem to exclude bicycle or mopeds) shopping area that could put Times Square to shame in terms of volume of people. We finished up by stumbling upon a Chinese restaurant called something like the Floating Butterfly. Once stuffed to the gills, we walked back to the hotel. Now we're getting ready for our last good sleep for probably sometime.

I'll try to post some photos in subsequent posts.
